FIRST SEE THE PICTURE TO THE LEFT TO MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY VOLTAGE IS IN FACT GOOD ENOUGH 6.3 VOLTS OR HIGHER (A_MUST)
-----------------------------
OK
SO THE ROOT PROBLEM IS (95%) A BAD GROUND TO THE STARTER SOLENOID PRIMARY COIL, YES GROUND.
THE SOLENOID PRIMARY SIDE (THE_TWO_SMALL_WIRES) HAS A FULL TIME 6 VOLT HOT WIRE GOING TO IT WHEN THE KEY SWITCH IS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION.
WHEN THE GROUND SIDE MAKES A GOOD GROUND THE SOLENOID DOES IT'S THING AND PUTS EVERY BIT OF 6V POWER THE BATTERY HAS TO THE STARTER THROUGH THE BIG RED + POSITIVE WIRE.
SO LETS TRACE THE GROUND BACK TO THE BATTERY, THERE ARE A LOT OF "WEAK_LINKS".
I AM ASSUMING YOU HAVE A GOOD FULLY CHARGED 6V (6_VOLT) BATTERY !! GET ONE IF NOT (:
MAKE SURE THE BATTERY TERMINALS ARE CLEAN AND MAKE SURE THE GROUND (-) CABLE IS MAKING GOOD GROUND TO THE FRAME, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAD YOUR FRAME PAINTED OR EVEN MORE, POWER COATED.
YOU MAY WANT TO JUMP TO THE LAST 2 ITEMS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE FIRST AND TEST THE SOLENOID AND STARTER TO ELIMINATE THEM
@ WEAK_LINK_#1 = CLEAN STARTER BUTTON - YOU DON'T HAVE TO DISASSEMBLE AS MUCH AS THE PICTURE SHOWS
@ WEAK LINK #2 NEUTRAL CONTACT LOCATED ABOVE THE FRONT DRIVE SPROCKET
SEE REPLACEMENTS BELOW AND HOW TO MAKE THEM WORK
@ CLICK TO SEE 256E BLACK COMPARISON WITH PASSPORT CONTACT SWITCH
@ MODS NEEDED TO WORK ON C70'S.... THE YELLOW AREA UNDER LIP MUST BE GROUND DOWN TO ALLOW FOR SOME NOT ALL OF THE "BLUE MARKED" LENGTH DIFFERENCE (CAN_REPLACE_OEM#_35600-174-671)
DON'T GRIND OFF TOO MUCH READ ABOUT 256F HOLDING PLATE BELOW
@ WEAK LINK #3 SHIFT DRUM CONTACT SPOT/PAD/RAMP (C70_80/81) CLEAN YOUR DRUM TAB INSTRUCTIONS
@ (C70_80/81) CLICK TO SEE AREA WHERE DRUM NEEDS TO BE CLEANED FOR BETTER CONTACT
@ WEAK LINK #4 CHECK ALL THE SMALL WIRE CONNECTIONS -- SEE THE DIAGRAM WHERE THEY ARE AND THE COLOR
@ SO IF ALL 4 OF THE ABOVE WEAK LINK ISSUES ARE RESOLVED (AND_STILL_NOT_STARTING) THEN TEST THE SOLENOID --- WHEN THE START BUTTON IS PUSHED YOU SHOULD GET A CLICK NOISE AND VOLTAGE BETWEEN THE TWO STUD BOLTS SHOULD GO FROM NO VOLTAGE TO 6+ VOLTS OF DC CURRENT
@ SOLENOID LOOKS GOOD THEN TEST THE STARTER --- USE AN OLD SCREWDRIVER AND SHORT THE TWO SOLINOID TERMINAL DIRECTLY WITH EACH OTHER -- 100% CONNECTION -- THE STARTER SHOULD SPIN UNTILL YOU RELEASE THE SCREWDRIVER -- IF NOT THE STARTER NEEDS REBUILT
@ 265E IS A 2ND CHOICE IF WE ARE OUT OF THE RED TRX90 CONTACTS - IT WORKS JUST AS GOOD
